We want you to stay with the woman Jacob did not love—and the God who saw her.
Genesis tells us that the LORD saw Leah when she was unloved. With Reuben, she hopes Jacob will finally love her. With Simeon, she says the LORD has heard her pain. With Levi, she still hopes her husband will become attached to her. Then Judah is born, and her words change: this time she will praise the LORD.
Why we are sharing this
Scripture does not treat Leah as a background figure in someone else’s love story. God sees her pain, and Judah’s line becomes part of the road to Jesus.
Read it for yourself
Read Genesis 29:31–35 slowly. Follow Leah’s words with each son’s name, then read Luke 1:46–55 and notice Mary’s praise of the God who looks with favor on the lowly.
Watch the short, then read Leah’s four statements for yourself.
