Were Paul’s Olive Tree Branches Still Attached? | Mark D. Nanos

We introduce Mark D. Nanos’s debated reading of the natural branches in Romans 11.

We are looking again at the branches in Paul’s olive-tree picture. We made this teaching for you.

Reading Romans 11 with care

Mark D. Nanos proposes that some natural branches in Romans 11:17 may be bent or cracked yet still attached, in contrast with the separate warning that the wild shoot could be cut off. This is his argued reading, not a settled consensus or his endorsement of MMAB.

Nanos’s proposal makes Paul’s warning to the wild shoot against pride more audible while preserving Israel’s continuing place.

Read Romans 11:11, 17–24, and 28–29, then watch our introduction.
