What Noah’s Blessing Actually Says

We want to read Noah’s difficult blessing with you without letting prejudice put words in the Bible’s mouth.

Noah praises the LORD as Shem’s God and asks that Japheth be enlarged. The words concern Canaan, Shem, and Japheth within the ancient family story of Genesis. The passage says nothing about skin color, and the identity of the one who will dwell in Shem’s tents remains genuinely debated.

Why we are sharing this

A difficult passage should be read carefully, especially when it has been used to harm people. Scripture later carries blessing through Abraham to the nations and, for Christians, to Jesus—not toward racial domination.

Read it for yourself

Begin with Genesis 9:20–27, continue through the family lines of Genesis 10, and then place the passage beside God’s promise to bless the nations through Abraham in Genesis 12:1–3.

Watch the short, then separate what Genesis says from what prejudice has added.
